I don't understand why people would want a sports car that has been ruined by being turned into a wagon. It would be like having a hammer with a phillips head screw driver on the face... it just doesn't work well for any task.
If I want a wagon, I want a wagon. If I want a sports car, I want a sports car.

LOL. I'm pretty sure I would never get laid if I brought the above car back and had to park next to a standard vette...
Edit: Also, my dog is very happy he doesn't have to come with me when I am going for a "fun" drive in my sports car.

Good sir, you seem to be under the impression the car was made less of a sports car by being made into something practical and everyday. May I assure you that is not the case, as the car is *not* particularly more practical and is made completely bughouse insane.
Also, a small hammer with a magnetic screwdriver tip would be useful for setting screws into wood in an assembly process for someone following with a screwgun. Note: this is not a practical use, and ends up taking up two people's time rather than one, in addition not making the process any faster. The person who would advocate it might be someone who insists on being able to hammer during his job or a screwgun operator with one arm. Thus, application-wise, it's insane, but because it's insane, it's interesting.
Also, 968: widely recognized as a sports car.
Apparently only a *bit* insane.

The 968 would not be a wagon by most definitions. Most people call that a hatch back.
No one said a sports car can't be practical, it's just not a sports car if it's a wagon. A wagon increases the over hangs significantly, adds a lot of glass weight, and makes the chassis less stiff. It's like all the draw backs of making a convertible version of a car with a few extra bad things.

I'm missing the part where a hilariously impractical car isn't cool.

Oh, I didn't say it wasn't cool. I just don't understand it. I buy things to fill specific roles. If I can't justify why something exists other than "it's interesting" I don't see it's value.

70's hard rock band drummer who doesn't want to put his gear on the bus and is going to a practice gig because his full kit won't quite fit.
Okay, not a drummer, a bassist. Bass + amp and extra clothes is about all that thing can do.
